[Social] New Kid on Campus

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days. The nearby stables are still maintained with a number of well-heeled equines.

The option was given to drop his things off before getting a tour of the facility. Suitcase and coat deposited, Naku opted to wait in the gardens before someone came to collect him. He thought he told someone he would be there, but it's possible he only thought it. None of his roommates were present when he arrived. At least, they hadn't popped out of their rooms. It didn't help that Naku hadn't stuck around for long after his items touched his bed.

The only thing he brought with him was his guitar. He left his case open in his room, only bringing his pride and joy with him. He played a few lines of various songs, trying to fall on one that resonated with him as he walked through the rose garden.

Was it bad he was near halfway across the world still thinking of her? He decided he needed to rebrand the heartache into something different. Settling on a melody, soon enough he opened up to sing softly to himself at first.

"Keeping me in check, keeping me obsessed
Play you on repeat endlessly in my head
Anytime it hurts, play another verse
but I can be your sanctuary..."

He slowed at the word, thoughts going from the duration of his old flame to the last time he tried to help her. The last word resonated with him, for once, instead of getting swept up int he negative, he pushed through on the opposite side. Surety and confidence became his boon.

"Know I'm the only one right now
I will love you more when it all burns down
More than power, more than gold
Yeah, you gave me your heart now I'm here for your soul

"I'm the only one who'll love your sins...
Feel the way my voice gets underneath your skin..."

He let the guitar build up, trying to take an amend the feelings he felt on that fateful day. His voice got a bit louder, letting himself forget he was in a new place and ignorant of the idea that others could be around.

"Listen cause I'm preachin' to the choir
Can I get the mic a little higher?
Gimme your desire
I can be the star you rely on
Lost in my spell, now you can't look away
Don't you know I'm here to save you
Now we runnin' wild
Yeah, I'm all you need, Imma be your idol!"

He played the guitar a bit after rather then going into the middle part of the song. It was Nakus choice to bask in this feeling that he could be relied on it others just trusted in him. First, he had to trust in himself. This was the first start of it, even if it was the inversion of the shame he felt. The song was not his own, though he tweaked it here and there. Others could join in if they wanted, but no effect would hit anyone else unless they got within five feet of him. Thus, he wasn't concerned of it happening. He played and dwelled in the new emotions before looking around to see if anyone else was present.

Thrax had finally done it; he enrolled. Why? He wanted to know more about the planet that he may never get to leave. With little to his name that wasn't just as alien as himself—including his actual name—he strode across the grounds on the way to his dorm. That was when he heard the rather sad song drifting from the gardens. They were pretty good—they were no Thraxion Ord'Rakar but there was only one of those—so he found himself changing course to get a look at his musical competition.

When the song ended, the big honkin' hyena-man clapped. "Nice pipes."

The voice brought Nakus attention up. His fingers stumbled off a few cords as he laid eyes on a tall Hyena man. he had to be at least a foot taller than him."Thanks," he said as he settled himself. He had seen anthromophic people in the past, but it never got easier on first meetings.

"Not bothering you, am I?" he wondered, letting his eyes take in what the Hyena man had with him. "I can play another tune if you prefer," he said, though had no clue what that would be at this exact moment.

Thrax's luggage, as it were, was a backpack and the guitar he had borrowed from Will. He still felt weird without his tiruga but he couldn't exactly hardly carry advanced alien technology around with drawing suspicion. At least the Earth guitar was similar.

"I always enjoy hearing a new song sung well," he responded with a smile. He had an accent that was impossible to place. "Did you write it?"

"This song?" he asked, strumming a bit faster until its conclusion. "No. It's a song I heard back in the States. Something about 'embodying the essence of a new song'...." he said while taking a look at the others guitar. Naku managed a more confident grin. "Just made a few tweaks. What about you?" he asked, jutting his chin to the musical instrument the larger male had. "Write your own songs or do mostly covers?"

"Mostly covers these days, especially when busking over in Mutant Town," he answered. Of course, his own songs weren't written with human audiences in mind and needed extensive rewrites to still work. "I've also been to... well, preoccupied to write anything new."

He stepped closer and held out his big hand. "People call me Thrax. Because I've got electricity powers on top of being a handsome fucker," he said, introducing himself with a confident grin. Animalistic mutants were typically more self-conscious about their appearance but definitely not this guy.

As infectious as the grin was, Nakus bubbling confidence from his own song was fading. He shook the larger mans hand as if knowing he was about to get crushed in the weight. If it did hurt, he likely wouldn't actually know due to his own dampened pain receptors.

"Names Naku for... reasons," he said with a chuckle. "Maybe one day I'll have a stellar reason when introducing myself. Just move in?" he wondered with a glance to the big guys luggage.

The big guy's grip was strong but he'd been around smaller bipeds long enough to not crush anyone's hand. After the handshake ended and the conversation continued, he repositioned his backpack and chuckled. "Oh! Yeah. Naku smirked at being right. He liked when hunches paid off. Never mind how obvious this on was. "Yeah. Just moved in today. Waiting out here for a tour, but... I may have forgotten to tell them where I'd be," he said with a bit of a light chuckle.

color=#004080]"Any idea where you'll be staying? I can at least walk you back to the dorms,"[/color] he offered, sliding off the bench and standing up. Yup, just as he thought. A foot taller at least. He slid his guitar behind him and looked up at the beastkin.

As they head back towards the dorms they're spotted by a kind of unremarkable brown-haired girl who waves them down and comes jogging their way.

"Oh good, there you are." she says, relief palpable in her voice. "I was worried I'd have to try and spot you from the air. You're Thrax, right? They said you'd be hard to miss. And you're Naku? I'm Amy."

"It's more energy... stuff? I can shoot it out or let it move me around." she says. She kind of regrets mentioning it already, Thrax seems like one of those folks who gets excited about power stuff.

"It has it's moments. Just hard to control." she says and holds her hands out to the side slightly, palms facing the ground. There's a white glow that starts shining faintly through her blouse, then spreads down her arms and legs as she haltingly lifts off the ground a foot or so. She looks unsteady but almost more in the sense that her hovering is restless and she keeps having to reign it in from flying off in any given direction. She keeps it up for maybe a second before dropping back down with an audible exhale.

At the arrival of the brunette, Namur becomes quiet. Ha gave a nod of his head with a small smile before listening to the pair exchange. He figured they knew of each other at least. He wondered how for a moment, but decided to drop it as Amy began displaying her flying skills.

"Impressive," he said evenly. "Doubt there'sa way we can follow if you took flight for real, though," he elaborated with a small chuckle. He was feeling awkward for some reason.

Naku got the look. Understanding it as he raised a brow that Thrax could follow. He pushed up his glasses. "Interchange. Essentially, energy manipulation. Not like Amy's. It wont help me fly," he said. At least as far as he knew. He looked to his hands briefly. "Still learning what I'm capable of. "Pretty much. Some people already have it pretty together but it's pretty individual. There's Powers 101, like, literally and then there's practice time you get in the..." she sighs a little. "Danger Room. But we'll get to that at the end."

She starts leading them out from the rose garden and back onto the large gravel driveway in front of the manor itself. "If no one's told you yet, classes are in the manor, mostly in the west wing. The east wing has the library and a cafeteria in the back. There's an app that has a map too if you ever get lost and if you don't have a phone you can actually request one from student services." she goes on as they crunch across the gravel and towards one of the buildings off to the side of the manor, recessed and surrounded by sparse groupings of trees. "Which you'll find in the Admin building - or Dower House - over there. It's where a lot of the faculty lives too."

Naku followed along, listening and figuring ways he could have shared his abilities better. He didn't do it justice and made it sound a lot cooler than it was. Stupid.

After kicking himself, he turned to Thrax as he spoke. "Didn't know that was an option. Glad you made the call now," he said before eyeing the others suitcase. It rolled on the gravel like it was nothing.

The brown eyed teen looked back toward the brown haired girl. "So Amy... how long have you been at rhe University?" he wondered, remaining respectful with where his eyes went. Eyeing the scenery was a nice thing to do he figured.

He was in a silent state until Thrax spoke up. "Mine are relatively tame right now. Healing at a cost. Influencing people some. Small potatoes. Yeah..." he commented, playing down his skills for some reason. "So you can fly, or just land gracefully?" he said with an amused smirk.

There was no comment for Thrax's joke. It made sense to him for some reason, riding the wind like a flying horse. At Amy's comment about the horse-bird, he breathed out a laugh. It eventually became an uneasy laugh when she mentioned him helping with healing. "Yeah, I probably can do that," he ended by rubbing the back of his head. There was a catch to is, of course, but he could still take her up on that advice.

Putting his head back in his pocket, he gave a nod. "Yeah. I'll look into it. Any other place for us to visit to you think? I heard something about the Student Union Building. That place worth visiting?" He wondered, looking back to the pretty lady.

Re: New Kid on Campus

"Yeah, that's where we're headed." she says, leading them past the rose garden and the grassy quad situated behind the manor. On the other side of it is a decently large building with a long, more squat one attached to it, forming a wide angled corner to the open area of trees and grass criss-crossed by paths. There's a pretty decent amount of people about, enough of them older than the average college student to be notable.

"There's the student union, it's got a bunch of rooms for clubs, there's a small coffee shop that I think is getting fresh baked goods in daily now, billiards and an arcade and all. There's a bar too, over on the far corner. The flat building's a huge rec center with a gym, swimming pool, even has a sauna. Used to be almost too big for how many students we had but that's been fixed by the latest addition." She points over to the final set of buildings bordering the quad. There's a building reminiscent of the dorms that is too big to just be for staff, directly adjacent to a community center.

And as they walk down one of the paths the final building comes into view. The bottom three stories are open space safe for the four corners supporting the fourth and fifth stories of actual building. The entire open area is basically a covered plaza on the side facing the quad and an access road big enough to accommodate trucks on the other. Separating the two sections is a huge high-tech arch of sleek white plating covering complicated machinery and within the arch is an image of a dense urban area. Except people are moving into and out of it. A truck on the far side approaches the back of the archway and rather than come through it just seems to disappear. It's some kind of gateway.

"The latest addition. It's a portal to London. Mutant Town to be exact. You'll have to ask the head-mistress how it works and she'll probably talk your ear off about it, but basically you just... walk through and you're all the way in London where there's the same kind of setup. You can go through it from the back-side too but that one's reserved for vehicles and somehow the two don't get in each others' way because... physics? I try not to think too hard about the geometry, if I'm honest."

Naku watched the people they passed before he took in the scenery. He looked about where Amy mentioned, holding any questions until they all got swept away by laying eyes on the portal.

He gave an impressed whistle, looking it over. When Thrax spoke, Naku listened, brown eyes taking in the intellectual hyena. "Good thinking. I'll keep that in mind," he said before looking to the suitcase Thrax was hauling around. He figured it would be fine for now.

Taking in the other people out and about, he finally asked a question. "Is everyone here students, or....? Mayne the demography for here is higher age than Im used to," he suggested.

"I think it's technically south Lambeth? It's just what everyone calls it because a lot of mutants, especially ones with visible mutations ended up there.
