Breakfast at Moonies

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days. The nearby stables are still maintained with a number of well-heeled equines.

Breakfast at Moonies

Postby Mooncalf » Wed Nov 19, 2025 8:31 pm

Mooncalf is skipping through the quad, occasionally hopping on one foot, then going into an awkward handstand that she falls out of after a couple of 'steps' only to spend a couple moments on her back, looking up at the cloudy sky before clambering back to her feet. She's having a good, lucid day. The Dragoman - Ashlie she reminds/corrects herself - had asked her a bunch of questions earlier, trying to reconcile something or other about some project and it's metaphysical implications. Mooncalf hadn't fully followed what she'd been getting at but then she sometimes struggles to figure out what kind of convoluted term and math the artificial lady uses for such simple concepts as Spinnies. So much effort to describe things and then still miss half of it. Or more! So annoying.

But! She did manage to produce a good answer when asked about the Big Bang. She's not sure Ashlie saw it that way but Mooncalf was exceedingly happy with it. So much so that it's now stuck in her head and she hums and sings it as she meanders about.

Burned too long you double-back, to the chicken and the egg.

Looky here it’s all brand new, questions old and questions new.

Up above and down below. Some are chicken, some are crow,
But if you really got to know; not sure if I can help you though.

There ain’t no single certain things, but that the songbird always sings.
A song of flame, a song of wings, a song of ash, a song of strings.

A song of death, a song of birth, a baby’s breath, Samsara’s mirth.

Yuli had gotten bursts of sleep. Nightmares kept waking her up, but it was so nice to be cozy in that tub. She'd gotten up when she noticed the sun was out though, made her way to the roof, and waited for the rays to charge her stuff while she took another nap.

While up there she had noticed this place that she was now walking. Very green. Very manicured. Very patterned. Very... musical? She heard a song while walking, following the tune. Her ears swirled in the direction of her as she prepped to come from behind the hedge.

Out came the white haired fox girl from around the corner. "Is that a song of yur kin?" she wondered, clad in the same outfit she arrided in, including her boots which were no longer water logged. Her sand colored body suit was covered by a sleeveless white long coat. it wasn't pristine ivory any longer, certainly looked like it'd been through some rough times, but the mud was washed from it. It at least seemed cleanest by her shoulders.

Mooncalf stops her skipping/dancing and stares at Yuli for long enough to begin getting really uncomfortable, then snaps out of it all of a sudden.

"No!" she says cheerfully. "Maybe? It could be! My kin don't really do songs like that. Which is why it's so fun to do 'em now! Somehow it makes words more... wordy." she says with enough gravitas as if she just announced some fundamental truth of the universe. There's an almost manic gleam in her eyes that's being hidden or muted by her perpetually sleepy-looking expression. She narrows her eyes even more and takes another look at Yuli. "You're weird." she says as if it's a compliment. "But I cannot figure out why."

The staring wasn't uncomfortable to Yuli at all. It was actually quite common when trying to figure out if another was to be friend or foe. As such, Yuli waited patiently. The response made the time-traveler come out more. This person had a very sleepy look look to her. She paused at being called weird, afraid it had to do with her ears and tail. When the other couldn't figure out why, it was clear that was not the case.

Breathing easy, Yuli let her tail swish lazily behind her as her ears stayed trained on the other. "Yuli's not from 'round 'ere. Buhleve ya call it, North Africa," she explained, wondering if that would be good enough for the other. "Where are you from?" she asks, speaking slowly so that the other could hear her clearly.

Mooncalf purses her lips to the side and makes a quiet "Hmm." noise.

"I don't know anything about the North Africa." she finally settles on with a shrug. "I'm from where the Egg's from!" she grins, exceptionally happy with having executed an metaphor.

The grin was met with a similar one. "The chicken? Or something more?" She wondered before canting her head to the side. "Technically, would we all be from the egg?"

Diego usually spent most of his free time drawing on his tablet in the comfort of his room. But that day his inner jungle cat was feeling restless, so he headed out to the quad for some outdoor time, where he got recruited for a game of frisbee with some other students. That brought him to the moment where he made a rather impressive leap over a rose bush to catch the errant disc, landing almost right on top of the two girls.

"Oh shit! I mean...h-hi," he said awkwardly.

"Oh nobody's like that chicken and egg. Wait no. There's one. But yeah, I mean everything's from the egg if you wanna look at it like that." she says, then makes a startled yelp and hops back when Diego lands next to them.

The blonde was about to get a response, but Yuli turned to see the guy in the sky falling to meet them. Instinct made her move back as she reached for a weapon, only to remember she had none. He seemed... different.

"Hi. Who are ya?" She asked, immediately interested in how he could move as he did. He was nimble. Cat like even. Was he... did he have the gene? Was he bleeding? Was she? Yuli looked from one to the other, remembering her reason for being there. Not to get swept away in the people who were 300+ years younger than her, but to make it so that this life could continue. "Are ya hurt?" She asked, certainly asking so that she could exploit the injury.

He gave himself a quick once over just in case. "Nope! Cats always land on their feet."

"Why would I be hurt? It's not like I actually crashed into you. But I guess I should apologize for startling you. Sorry."

He smiled, pretending not to notice her defensive body language. "Oh! You asked me who I am. Name's Diego. And you two?"

Yuli seemed a bit disappointed that he wasn't hurt, but everyones greeting perked her up. Especially Mooncalf. She relaxed her stance then looked to the blonde with an odd smile. "Wha' an in'erestin' name. Yuli," she said with a hand to her chest, attention returning to Diego.

She pointed to the disc he had. ' 's tha' for combat?" she wondered, not having seen something like that before except in battle.

New words galore! Yuli liked this one. She beamed brightly at Mooncalf before looking back to Diego and his non-destructo disc. "Frezebe? No. What games do you play here?" She wondered.

Just cat legs, furry forearms, claws and, one assumes, fuzzy ears somewhere under his poofy near-afro. Perfectly abnormal.

"Oh! Yeah, it's my turn to throw this back," he remembered. Just as a few more 'normal' mutant boys came into view.

"Oi! D! You throwing it back, yeah?" one called over.

"Yeah, yeah, hold your horses!" Diego called back as he sent the frisbee sailing back out of the gardens. "And I'm out! Sports aren't really my thing!"

Looking at the others feline like legs, it was taking everything in Yuli not to take out a knife, slice him, and get that precious blood she needed to check for the animus strain. She watched him throw the disc back then say he was done with them for now. "Fri'bee sport, or all sports?" she wondered after his sayings back to the others.
